A pumpkin-themed event is returning to Vandergrift.

The annual Vandergrift Great Pumpkin Patch returns from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 30 in Franklin Park. Last year’s festivities were canceled because of the pandemic.

The event is sponsored by the Vandergrift Parent Project.

“The VPP loves to bring our community together to celebrate Halloween,” said event co-organizer Chloe Kruse.

Co-organizers Shannon Gourley, Andrea Woodhall and Tina Roberto are planning a decoration station, games, music, a costume contest and more for the free event, which is open to borough youth 18 and younger.

The Vandergrift Parent Project was created in 2018 and consists of parents residing in Vandergrift who are committed to improving the borough’s playgrounds and green spaces.

The group raised funds to plant a community and sensory garden in Franklin Park.

Attendees are invited to select a pumpkin from the hundreds that will dot the park grounds, all donated by the Gourley family of Vandergrift.

About 200 pumpkins were given away in 2019.

The Vandergrift Public Library will host a story time beginning at noon at the tree stump area.

Local puppeteer Dave English will perform at 1 pm.

English owns the David T. English Puppet Co. and has worked as a professional puppeteer for more than 20 years. He lives in Vandergrift and is known for his variety of accents.

Organizers said families are invited to bring blankets and have a picnic in the park.

Michele’s Mobile Meals food truck will be on hand selling hot dogs, burgers, fries and more.

The costume contest begins at 2 p.m.

The event is first-come, first-served, and no registration is required.
