Wheeling Nailers sign former Robert Morris forward Alex Tonge

The Wheeling Nailers have signed former Robert Morris forward Alex Tonge to an ECHL contract. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Tonge, 25, is one of the most accomplished players in the history of Robert Morris’ men’s program. In 146 career NCAA games with Robert Morris, Tonge scored 138 points, fourth-most in school history.

A native of Kingston, Ont., Tonge will be entering his third professional season. In 2019-20, he spent time with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades, Adirondack Thunder and Norfolk Admirals. Appearing in 47 games last season, he scored 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists).

The Nailers, ECHL affiliate of the Penguins, are scheduled to open their 2020-21 season Dec. 12.
