The West Virginia men’s basketball team will not play its scheduled game at No. 2 Baylor on Tuesday.
The Big 12 Conference on Monday announced the Mountaineers were not able to meet necessary covid-19 requirements set forth by the conference.
No. 13-ranked WVU and Baylor are working with the conference to reschedule the game, the Mountaineers athletic department said in a release related to the announcement.
“Our intent is to get the spread under control as soon as possible for the health and safety of all involved,” said Shane Lyons, WVU’s director of athletics.
“While this issue has hit many college basketball programs, we have been fortunate to have played 13 games so far this season.”
WVU is 9-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Mountaineers last played Saturday and suffered a 72-70 loss to fourth-ranked Texas on 3-pointer from Andrew Jones with 1.8 seconds left.
WVU entered the game No. 14 in the Associated Press national rankings. Despite the loss to the Longhorns, the Mountaineers ticked up one spot to No. 13 in the latest poll released Monday.
No determination has been made for any future WVU games at this time.
WVU is slated to host TCU in Big 12 action at 2 p.m. Saturday followed by a home conference matchup with Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Jan. 19.
