The United Soccer League announced the temporary suspension of the USL Championship season has been extended.

On March 18, the league announced the season would be suspended until May 10. This came after the league — home to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds — decided to suspend the beginning of the season for a minimum of 30 days.

But because of the situation and health concerns surrounding the spread of the coronavirus, the USL Championship’s Board of Governors decided to extend the suspension further.

No date has been announced for a full return. The USL stated it would wait for further guidance from the local, state, and national health authorities before announcing a new date.

Although training facilities are closed, the USL also islooking into options that would allow players to return to training facilities for individual or small-group work prior to May 15.

Any re-opening of club facilities would have to be in accordance with local and state guidelines.

The league is in a position to reschedule all matches affected by the suspension. Also, tickets to postponed Riverhounds home matches will be honored at each game’s respective rescheduled date.
