The West Virginia men’s basketball team was scheduled to face Big 12 Conference foe Baylor twice in four days next week, but both games have been postponed.
The conference announced Monday that the games, a home contest slated for Feb. 15 and a road matchup Feb. 18, will not be played because Baylor is not able to meet the conference-established covid-19 requirements necessary to play a game.
WVU athletics said in the released statement it will work with both the conference and Baylor to reschedule the games.
Baylor is 17-0 on the season and ranked No. 2 in the latest Associated Press poll released Monday.
This is the second time the Mountaineers and Bears men’s basketball teams have had a game postponed.
The Feb. 18 contest with Baylor originally was to be played Jan. 12 but was moved because WVU was not able to meet the covid requirements.
The Mountaineers then had home games with TCU and Oklahoma State postponed for the same reasons. Those games have yet to be rescheduled.
Since those postponements, WVU returned to action and has won four of five games, including Saturday’s 91-79 home victory over Kansas, to improve to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 play.
The only loss in that stretch was an 85-80 setback to Florida on Jan. 30 as a part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
WVU, ranked 14th in the AP poll, is slated to return to action at 9 p.m. Tuesday at Texas Tech.
