Tight end Darnell Washington was an addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ injury report, sitting out Thursday’s practice because of a knee injury.

Washington joined veteran starting left guard Isaac Seumalo and rookie defensive lineman Logan Lee as Steelers who were listed as “did not participate” on the league-mandated injury report. It previously was known that Seumalo (pectoral) and Lee (calf) will not play in Sunday’s season opener at the Atlanta Falcons.

Three of the four players whose status is more in flux and who were limited during Wednesday’s practice were upgraded to full participants Thursday: first-round pick Troy Fautanu, running back Jayen Warren and No. 3 outside cornerback Cory Trice Jr.

Fautanu, a tackle, practiced fully for the first time since suffering a knee injury during his NFL preseason debut Aug. 9. Warren suffered a hamstring injury during the ensuing game Aug. 17, and Trice endured a groin ailment during the preseason finale Aug. 24.

Rookie receiver Roman Wilson remained status quo as a limited participant Thursday. Wilson has been dealing with an ankle injury for more than a month.

The Steelers plan for Washington to be a significant part of the offense as the No. 2 tight end in new coordinator Arthur Smith’s TE-heavy scheme. The Steelers, however, have three other tight ends on the 53-man active roster: starter Pat Freiermuth, versatile Connor Heyward and veteran MyCole Pruitt.

Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson was a limited participant Thursday because of a calf injury.
