Not satisfied with merely adding two cornerbacks in the draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a rare signing of a veteran during it.

Slot/nickel back Chandon Sullivan will join the Steelers, according to a post to the Twitter account of the agency that represents him, Katz Brothers Sports.

Katz Brothers did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment. The Steelers have not yet announced the signing.

Sullivan is a six-year NFL veteran who has played for three teams. Last season, the 5-foot-11, 189-pound Sullivan appeared in a career-high 81% of the defensive snaps for the NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings.

Sullivan started 10 games in 2022 and has made 31 career starts over 71 games for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Vikings. Sullivan has not missed a game over the past four seasons since he became a regular, only sitting out 11 times when he was an undrafted rookie with the Eagles in 2018.

Sullivan has five career interceptions, 23 passes defended and 169 tackles (136 solo, four for loss).

The Steelers value blitzing ability from their nickel/slot DBs, and according to Pro Football Reference, Sullivan rushed the passer 15 times last season, twice pressuring the opposing quarterback.

Sullivan is yet another tie to Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl, who previously served as vice president of player personnel with Philadelphia. The Steelers have made myriad acquisitions of former Eagles who date to Weidl’s tenure there.

Sullivan has mostly been a nickel/slot throughout his career; according to Pro Football Focus, for 886 of snaps played last season Sullivan was lined up in the slot.

The Steelers during this weekend’s draft took cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr. in the second round and Cory Trice in the seventh. They also added veteran Patrick Peterson in free agency last month.

The Steelers revolved through several nickel defensive backs last season, mostly leaning on Arthur Maulet to handle that work. Versatile cornerback Cameron Sutton departed via free agency.
