Center Mitch Morse, who was released by the Buffalo Bills in a salary-cap move Wednesday, is scheduled to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers before the start of NFL free agency next week, according to a league source.
Morse, who turns 32 in April, spent the past five seasons in Buffalo and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2022. He spent the first four years of his career with Kansas City, which took him in the second round of the 2015 draft.
The Bills cleared $8.5 million in cap space by releasing Morse. He is free to sign with a team before the start of the new NFL calendar year Wednesday.
The Steelers are looking for a center after releasing Mason Cole, their starter the past two seasons. Even before Cole was released, the organization was expected to heavily evaluate the center prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class.
Players with experience playing center on the Steelers roster include backup interior lineman Nate Herbig and right guard James Daniel. Neither player, however, is viewed as a long-term option in the pivot.
Morse has started 126 games in his NFL career, including all 17 last season for the Bills, who defeated the Steelers in the wild-card round of the AFC playoffs.
