The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t settled on a punter yet, but they have removed the competition for two other specialists.

Kicker B.T. Potter and long snapper Rex Sunahara of West Virginia were among eight players the Steelers cut Saturday.

The Steelers have 82 players on the offseason roster and must get to the 53-man limit by Tuesday afternoon. Among the players remaining are two punters: incumbent Pressley Harvin III and former New York Jets punter Braden Mann.

Not that veteran kicker Chris Boswell or long snapper Christian Kuntz was in jeopardy of losing their jobs before Saturday. The Steelers typically bring a second kicker and long snapper to training camp.

Potter made two field-goal attempts in the preseason opener against Tampa Bay, but he missed from 43 yards in the second half Thursday night at Atlanta.

Other players cut were defensive backs Madre Harper and Nevelle Clark, defensive lineman James Nyamawaya, linebackers Kuony Deng and Forrest Rhyne and wide receiver Dan Chisena of Penn State.
