DENVER — Russell Wilson again tested his injured calf in a pregame setting at a road venue, but the result was the same for the 35-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.

Wilson will serve as the No. 3 emergency quarterback for the second week in a row when the Steelers face the Denver Broncos at Empower Field.

Justin Fields will make his second consecutive start at quarterback. Kyle Allen will serve as the backup.

Also inactive for the Steelers are defensive lineman Dean Lowry, wide receiver Roman Wilson, left guard Isaac Seumalo and safeties Jalen Elliott and Terrell Edmunds.

Wilson was limited for all three practice sessions during the week and he was questionable to play against the his former team. Fields took first-team reps during all three sessions.

Dressed in a black sleeveless hoodie and shorts and wearing a black baseball cap, Wilson worked out a few hours before the game, throwing to some of the team’s wide receivers. He also mingled with some of his former Broncos teammates.

Lowry, Wilson, Seumalo and Elliott were inactive for the second week in a row. Edmunds was scratched in his first game back with the Steelers. The organization signed him off Jacksonville’s practice squad early last week.

Active for the Steelers is wide receiver Ben Skowronek, who was elevated from the practice squad for the second consecutive game.

The Broncos’ inactives are wide receiver Devaughn Vele, running back Blake Watson, cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, tackle Frank Crum, tight end Lucas Krull and defensive end Eyloma Uwazurike. Zach Wilson is the No. 3 emergency quarter for Denver.

The Broncos elevated running back Tyler Badie and wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey from the practice squad.
