Mehki Flowers started the new year by announcing a new journey with the Penn State football team.
The junior from Steelton-Highspire in Harrisburg announced on Twitter a verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions on Friday morning.
“Gear me up @coachjfranklin lol. Super excited to get started with you, Let’s make HISTORY,” Flowers tweeted to Penn State coach James Franklin shortly after releasing his decision.

Flowers is rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports.
Penn State was one of 18 FBS schools to offer the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder. Those offers included Pitt, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Kentucky and Nebraska.
Flowers is the fifth from Pennsylvania to join the Nittany Lions’ 2022 recruiting class, which now features eight four-star prospects. Listed as an athlete in the recruiting process, he could play wide receiver or safety at Penn State. He is a standout at both positions for Steel-High.
High school football fans in the WPIAL watched Flowers perform on the top stage in Pennsylvania as he and the Steamrollers topped Jeannette, 32-20, for the PIAA Class A title Nov. 27 in Hershey.
Flowers hauled in a first-quarter screen pass and maneuvered 50 yards for a touchdown to get Steel-High on the board.
The state title for Steel-High was the 10th in program history.
