STATE COLLEGE — The Pitt/Penn State game started at 12:40 p.m. — 40 minutes late — after the threat of lightning left the area.

Prior to and during the delay, Penn State officials closed the gates, suspended entry into the stadium and cleared people who were already inside from uncovered seats. Many people congregated in the concourse or went outside to nearby buildings to seek shelter. Students abandoned their end zone seats to sit under an upper deck.

Players cut short their pregame warmups and went back to the locker rooms.
