Former Franklin Regional star Spencer Lee enjoys repeats.

Repeat trips to the NCAA wrestling finals. Repeat national championships. And repeat visits to the Iowa State Legislature.

Lee, a sophomore at Iowa, was honored for the second year in a row Wednesday at the Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines after he won back-to-back national titles.

Lee was the champion at 125 pounds last month when the NCAA Division I Championships were held at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

He stood before the House and Senate and listened to them recognize him with resolutions.

Iowa coach Tom Brands joined Lee in the chambers, along with other dignitaries from the university.

“Spencer is such a star on campus,” Iowa president Bruce Harreld told Hawkeyesports.com. “It is not just what he does on the mat, it’s what he does all across campus. We have so many student-athletes that are just that way. They are exceptional leaders on campus, wonderful grade point averages, and great human beings.”

Lee signed autographs and posed for photos.

“I love seeing black and gold here at the Capitol,” Lee said. “It’s awesome. We never take this for granted. I am honored to he here. Hopefully, we see this Capitol Building a lot more.”
