Rookie receiver Roman Wilson remains limited at Pittsburgh Steelers practices, putting his status to make his NFL debut in doubt again for the home opener Sunday.

Since suffering an ankle injury early during training camp, Wilson has made it through only one “full” practice over the past seven weeks — last Thursday. But he regressed to limited the following day and began this week of preparation for the Los Angeles Chargers again as a “limited” practice participant on the injury report.

Also limited because of injury Wednesday, as expected, was starting quarterback Russell Wilson. Barring something unforeseen, Justin Fields will make his third consecutive start Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.

Two other veterans were listed as limited but not for reasons of health. Outside linebacker T.J. Watt and defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi were given a “rest” designation for missing practice time.

While it is not uncommon for such Steelers’ older players to be held out from practice, running back Najee Harris joined those ranks Wednesday for what is believed to be the first time. Harris, a four-year veteran and 26 years old, did not practice Wednesday for what the team said was “not injury related — rest.”

Also not practicing Wednesday were starting left guard Isaac Seumalo and reserve tight end MyCole Pruitt. Seumalo is likely to miss a third consecutive game because of a pectoral injury, and Pruitt suffered a knee ailment during Sunday’s win at the Denver Broncos.
