The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to start goaltender Artus Silovs Tuesday in their season-opening game, a road contest against the New York Rangers.

Coach Dan Muse announced Silovs’ status to media outlets in New York following an optional morning skate at Madison Square Garden according to one of the team’s social media accounts.

Silovs, a rookie, is a newcomer to the Penguins who acquired him in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks on July 13.

The 24-year-old spent most of last season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Abbotsford Canucks. In 21 AHL games, he had a 14-5-2 record, a 2.41 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.

During this past preseason, Silovs appeared in three games and posted a 2-1-0 record, a 2.55 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.
