Pittsburgh Pirates President Travis Williams continued the beleaguered organization’s attempt to repair the damage done when it removed memorial bricks from PNC Park before opening day.

Fans who bought the bricks noticed and decried the move.

“There are no excuses. I am sorry,” Williams wrote in a letter to donors.

This is the third time the Bucco Bricks, which fans could buy for between $75 and $150 in 1999, have needed to be replaced. The previous replacements escaped notice, but the moves were made to prevent safety hazards presented by an uneven walking surface, Williams said.

The organization is offering those who bought bricks a free keepsake replica of the brick they bought, Williams said. To receive the brick, fans should visit mlb.com/pirates/fans/bucco-bricks.

The replica bricks they will receive are in addition to a new permanent display of the messages that had been preserved on the old bricks that is planned at the stadium.

“We have expedited the development of that new permanent display, showcasing these messages in a manner that is worthy of their deep personal meaning,” Williams wrote.

More details will be released soon, he said.

“My hope is that, through our actions, you will be assured that we appreciate you and we care about you,” Williams wrote.

The team has six wins and 12 losses in its 2025 campaign through Tuesday’s games. The announced attendance at PNC Park for Tuesday’s game, a 3-0 loss to the Washington Nationals, was 8,340.
