Six months before signing day, Penn State’s 2022 recruiting class stands No. 5 in the nation — No. 2 in the Big Ten — after wide receiver Tyler Johnson made a verbal commitment Monday to coach James Franklin.
Johnson (6-foot, 175 pounds) made the announcement on his Twitter account.

Johnson, a rising senior at Magna Vista High School in Ridgeway, Va., is unranked in the Rivals’ rankings. Nonetheless, he has 16 scholarship offers, including those from Boston College, Duke, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Vanderbilt and Purdue.
Penn State has two other wide receivers in its 12-man class, and both are four stars — Anthony Ivey of Lancaster and Kaden Saunders of Westerville, Ohio.
