STATE COLLEGE — The Penn State men’s basketball team officially announced the addition of transfer forward Greg Lee on Tuesday. Lee originally announced his commitment to the Lions on Sunday.

The 6-foot-9 Lee spent last season at Western Michigan, where he averaged 13.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and earned All-MAC honorable mention. Lee is the latest addition from the transfer portal for coach Micah Shrewsberry

“Greg is going to be a great addition to our program,” Shrewsberry said in a release. “He will provide a veteran presence and add more experience to our front line. His versatility and ability to score the ball in a variety of ways will be really helpful in our system. More importantly, he is a gym rat who will constantly push himself and his teammates to become better.”

Lee, 23, was the second-leading scorer for Western Michigan last season, and he posted two 20-point games, 14 double-digit outings and four double-doubles for the Broncos.

Lee is the fourth addition to the Penn State roster this season and the third from the transfer portal. Shrewsberry previously added guards Jaheam Cornwall (Gardner-Webb) and Jalen Pickett (Siena) from the portal, while forward Jevonnie Scott (South Plains College) committed from the junior college ranks.

The newcomers help to offset the departures of seven players, including leading scorers Myreon Jones (Florida) and Izaiah Brockington (Iowa State), in the transfer portal. Forwards John Harrar and Seth Lundy both entered the portal but elected to return to the Lions to play for Shrewsberry, who was hired in March.

Lee joins Scott in providing some depth in the front court behind Harrar and Lundy. Sophomore Caleb Dorsey is the only other forward listed on the current roster, which features just 11 players. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Penn State makes some more additions ahead of the season.

Lee began his college career at Cal State Bakersfield before transferring to Western Michigan. After redshirting in 2016-17, Lee averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds over 92 games (46 starts) in three seasons. In 2019-20, Lee averaged 6.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

Lee is a Rockford, Ill., native who played his high school basketball at Westside in Houston. He was a two-time All-District player during his high school career.
