Davon Townley Jr., a defensive lineman from North Community High School in Minneapolis, Minn., has joined the 2021 Penn State football recruiting class.
Townley Jr., who signed Wednesday morning to kick off the start of the national letter of intent regular signing period for Division I and II football, is rated four stars by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.
He chose the Nittany Lions from other offers that included Arizona, Arizona State, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Minnesota and Nebraska.
“Davon is an outstanding athlete that will continue to grow and develop in a great program,” said Charles Adams, coach at North Community High School. “His energy will outmatch any opponent. He has the potential to be the next big time NFL defensive prospect.”

Townley Jr. comes to Penn State as the No. 3 player in Minnesota, the No. 39 defensive end and the No. 35 overall player in the region by ESPN. He also was tabbed as the No. 2 player in the state and No. 11 player at his position by Rivals.
The two-time team captain (6-foot-6 and 240 pounds) played just two years of high school football. In six games over a shortened senior season, he tallied 42 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, 3 1/2 sacks and 10 pass breakups.
Townley Jr. is the 16th to sign a national letter of intent with the Nittany Lions. The other fifteen signed during the early period in December. He is the ninth recruit in the 2021 class rated four stars or higher by 247Sports, ESPN or Rivals.
