The Pittsburgh Penguins traded goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2028 NHL Draft.
Nedeljkovic, 29, is entering the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $2.5 million.
Initially joining the Penguins as an unrestricted free agent during the 2023 offseason, Nedeljkovic spent each of the past two seasons with the club.
This past season, Nedeljkovic led Penguins goaltenders with 38 games played. Posting a 14-15-5 record, he also had a 3.12 goals-against average, an .894 save percentage and one shutout.
During a 5-2 road win against the Buffalo Sabres on Jan. 17, Nedeljkovic became the first goaltender in NHL history to score a goal and record an assist in the same contest.

With Nedeljkovic’s departure, the Penguins now have four goaltenders signed to NHL contracts in incumbent starter Tristan Jarry as well as prospects Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov along with veteran Filip Larsson.
