The Pittsburgh Penguins suspended defenseman Egor Zamula for not reporting to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

A team spokesperson confirmed the punitive measure — which followed club policy — but did not elaborate further.

Zamula’s agent, Daniel Milstein, did not respond to a message seeking comment.

The Penguins acquired Zamula on Wednesday in a trade that sent forward Philip Tomasino to the Philadelphia Flyers. Immediately following the transaction, Zamula was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

A left-handed shot, Zamula has split the season between the NHL and AHL levels. With the Flyers, he has skated in 13 games and has one assist while averaging 14 minutes, 2 seconds of ice time.

With Lehigh Valley of the AHL, Zamula has appeared in three games and has two assists.

Zamula, 25, is in the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.7 million. He is a pending restricted free agent after this season.

While he is assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, even if just procedurally, $1.15 million of his salary cap hit will be excused from the books for the NHL club per league rules.

A native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, Zamula has spent parts of six seasons in the NHL, all with the Flyers.
