Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph is scheduled to miss Sunday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at PPG Paints Arena due to an undisclosed injury.

Coach Mike Sullivan announced Joseph’s status approximately two hours before the opening faceoff. Joseph’s ailment was still being evaluated according to Sullivan.

During the first period of a 3-2 home loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday, Joseph was injured after being hit by Bruins forward Mark Kastelic. He did not record a shift beyond the 13:05 mark of the opening period.

A left-handed shot, Joseph has appeared in 47 games this season and has recorded three assists while averaging 15:16 of ice time per contest.

Notes:

• Penguins rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist is scheduled to start Saturday’s game.

In 14 games this season, Blomqvist has a 4-9-0 record, a 3.63 goals against average and an .890 save percentage.

During his second career start, Blomqvist made 29 saves on 32 shots in a 4-2 road loss to the Maple Leafs on Oct. 12.

• Sullivan indicated forward Michael Bunting’s status remains uncertain after he underwent surgery to remove his appendix last week. Currently designated to injured reserve, Bunting has missed the past two games.

• Penguins forward Rickard Rakell has 499 career points.

• The Maple Leafs are expected to start goaltender Joseph Woll. In 31 games this season, Woll has a 20-11-0 record, a 2.63 goals against average, a .910 save percentage and one shutout.

Throughout his career, Woll has faced the Penguins in two contests and has posted a 0-2-0 record, a 3.10 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.

• Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews has 698 career points.
