The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Egor Zamula from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Philip Tomasino on Wednesday.

Zamula will be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

A left-handed shot, Zamula has split the season between the NHL and AHL levels. With the Flyers, he appeared in 13 games and has one assist while averaging 14:02 of ice time per contest.

After clearing waivers on Dec. 19, Zamula was assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL and appeared in three games for that club, posting two assists.

Zamula, 25, is in the final year of a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.7 million. While he is assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, $1.15 million of his salary cap hit will be excused from the books for the NHL club per league rules.

He is a pending unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason.

A native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, the undrafted Zamula has spent parts of six seasons in the NHL, all with the Flyers.

Tomasino’s tenure with the Penguins comes to an end after little more than a calendar year.

Acquired in a trade from the Nashville Predators on Nov. 24, 2024, Tomasino split this season between the NHL and AHL rosters.

Opening the season on the third line of the NHL club, Tomasino appeared in nine games and recorded one assist.

A healthy scratch for 12 games, Tomasino was placed on waivers on Nov. 18. After clearing, he was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Nov. 24 (exactly one year after he arrived via trade).

With the AHL club, Tomasino was productive. Primarily skating in a top-six role, he generated 15 points (five goals, 10 assists).

This past offseason, the Penguins re-signed Tomasino to a one-year contract worth $1.75 million. He is a pending restricted free agent after this season.
