Patrick Mahomes Sr. — the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — was arrested by Tyler, Texas police Saturday on suspicion of “driving while intoxicated, third or more,” according to Smith County online records.

Per those records, bond for the elder Mahomes was set at $10,000 on Sunday afternoon.

The 53-year-old Mahomes Sr., according to court records, had his second DWI charge in 2018. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 days in county jail; the online log stated he served those on weekend days from February 2019 through February 2020.

The arrest comes eight days before Mahomes Sr.’s son, Patrick, is set to play in his fourth career Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers.

Mahomes Sr. was a major-leaguer for 11 seasons from 1992-2003.

Kickoff for Super Bowl LVIII between Kansas City and San Francisco is 5:30 p.m. Central on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
