In this week’s “Next on the Tee” podcast, host Chris Mascaro is joined by Rick Werner, one of the country’s top PGA club professionals, as well as a 1979 Ohio PGA section champion and member of the 2023 South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame class.
Werner recalls his success at the University of South Dakota details his victory in the 1979 Ohio PGA Section.
He also discusses his time as a teaching professional at Quaker Ridge Golf Club, which is annually ranked among the top courses in the country. He also talks about the other great instructors he’s learned from over the years, including Jim McLean, John Jacobs, Davis Love Jr. and Jackie Burke.
Also, hear about the many rounds of golf he played with Gene Sarazen and Ken Venturi, plus a story from when he was paired with the great Charlie Sifford.
He met legendary Notre Dame football coach Ara Parseghian along his journeys, and Werner talks about the influence the coach had on his life.
Finally, an emotional Werner expresses what it will mean to be inducted into the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame this week.
