Neal Shipley’s first professional event could be considered a success after one round.

Playing in the PGA Tour Americas event in Victoria, British Columbia, on Thursday, Shipley shot a 4-under-par 66 and found himself four shots out of the lead at The Beachlands Victoria Open.

The Mt. Lebanon native’s round didn’t start well. Starting on the back nine, he double-bogeyed his first hole.

But he responded with two consecutive birdies (Nos. 11 and 12) and then finished his first nine with three consecutive birdies (No. 16, 17 and 18).

He then bogeyed No. 1 but bounced back with a birdie on No. 2. After another bogey (No. 5), he birdied the next two holes (Nos. 6 and 7).

Gustav Frimodt leads the tournament after shooting an 8-under 62.
