Minor league report: Jesse Puljujarvi scores 1st goal as Penguins beat Thunderbirds

Forward Jesse Puljujarvi scored his first goal of the season for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 road win against the Springfield Thunderbirds at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., on Monday.

Puljujarvi, the fourth overall selection in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, is signed to a professional tryout contract (PTO) with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 17 saves on 19 shots, improving his record to 12-4-3, while defenseman Will Butcher and Sam Poulin each contributed goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20-12-5). Poulin extended a goal-scoring streak to a career-best four games.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Providence Bruins on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.
