The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t swap Mike Tomlin to Chicago or ditch him via any method.
The Steelers won’t make any big personnel moves, except perhaps trading wideout George Pickens because his shenanigans go too far even in the laissez-faire culture Tomlin enables.
The Steelers won’t make changes to the coaching staff. The offensive line was terrible. The tackles finished 1-2 in the NFL in sacks allowed. But offensive line coach Pat Meyer has a year left on his contract, and the Steelers won’t pay him to not work. It’s a cheapskate move worthy of Bob Nutting.
By the time training camp starts and the quarterbacks hit the sled, you’ll be amazed at how little changes with the Steelers.
You shouldn’t be.
Going 10-7 and losing their first playoff game is fine by the Steelers.
Losing five games to end the season is incidental. Losing six straight playoff games is incidental. The various travesties that permeate both those streaks are incidental.
The tickets are sold. Revenue is through the roof. The brand is solid. The Steelers are in the mix, however peripherally.
If you make the playoffs, you got a chance. That’s what the Steelers tell you and what they tell themselves.
The Steelers are perfectly happy with this season and with the last eight seasons without a playoff win.
