Greensburg’s Mark Goetz is through to the next stage of qualifying for the Korn Ferry Tour, a minor-league type feeder to the PGA Tour.
Goetz, 25, finished tied for 10th at a first-stage tournament last week at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove-Crossings in Semmes, Ala. with a four-round total of 15-under-par 273.
He broke 70 each round, including a 5-under 67 in Round 2.
Q-School consists of four stages.
Goetz, who starred at West Virginia after playing at The Kiski School, advances to the second stage set for Nov. 14-17, at RTJ at Highland Oaks in Dothan, Ala.
In nine events this past season on PGA Tour Canada, Goetz made 7 of 9 cuts for $8,763.
His best finish came at the Quebec Classic where he tied for 12th.
He was 76th in the Fortinet Cup standings.
Goetz was the stroke-play medalist at the 2021 U.S. Amateur at Oakmont Country Club and Longue Vue Club for a local-boy-does-good story.
He is a member at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg.
The final stage of Korn Ferry Q-School is Dec. 14-17, at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedre Beach, Fla. The top five players and ties in the final stage receive a PGA Tour card.
The next 40 finishers will earn exempt status through multiple reshuffles of the 2023 Korn Ferry season.
