The Frontier League, the baseball league that the Washington Wild Things play in, made things official on Wednesday when it announced its 2020 season is suspended due to gathering and travel restrictions in many of the league’s locations.

“We all want to play Frontier League baseball in 2020,” league president Rich Sauget Sr. said in a press release. “However, with the continuing limitations on social gatherings in our markets plus travel restrictions impacting our Canadian teams, we had to make the tough decision that without availability to play in many of our 14 ballparks, that a 2020 championship season was no longer realistic.”

The suspension of the 2020 season gives individual teams the opportunity to pursue other baseball-related options at their parks. The release noted that teams have been working with their local health departments and submitting reopening plans. In the coming weeks, as safety plans are approved, teams will reveal what type of activities they will be allowed to participate in.

Like other teams, the Wild Things plan on resuming baseball activities at some point this summer. Wild Things president and general manager Tony Buccilli said the team plans to make an announcement about its plans Monday.
