Duquesne basketball coach Keith Dambrot continued to restock his roster, getting a verbal commitment from transfer center Tre Williams, who spent the past two seasons at Indiana State.

Williams is the third prospect in the past week to announce intention to enroll at Duquesne this year. He follows prep school point guard Primo Spears and forward R.J. Gunn, who is transferring from Division II Lenoir-Rhyne.

After he signs his letter of intent, Williams (6-foot-7, 250 pounds) could help mitigate the loss of senior center Michael Hughes, who has announced plans to turn pro. Marcus Weathers, the Dukes’ other top inside presence, also completed his senior season this year.

Over the past two seasons, Williams has shown an ability to score — and prevent scores — around the basket. He recorded shooting percentages of 53.2% this season and 54.7% in 2019-20 while blocking 37 shots in each season. He averaged nine points and six rebounds this season and 7.2 and 4.2 a year ago.

He was one of six Indiana State players to enter the NCAA’s transfer portal after the school dismissed 11-year coach Greg Lansing. Indiana State (15-10, 11-7) advanced to the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, losing to Loyola Chicago, 65-49.

After entering the portal, Williams attracted interest from Dayton, UAB, Cincinnati, Wichita State, Akron, Northern Kentucky and Kent State, according to the Terre Haute (Ind.) Tribune-Star.
