The Robert Morris men’s basketball team’s game at Detroit Mercy scheduled for New Year’s Day has been canceled because of coronavirus cases in the Detroit Mercy program.

As per Horizon League policy, the game will be considered a no contest. Games canceled because of “extraordinary circumstances” are considered no contests rather than forfeits. The league has determined that the high volume of breakthrough covid cases among vaccinated people that is part of the omicron outbreak constitutes “extraordinary circumstances.”

Coming off a 75-67 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 22, the Colonials are 2-9 overall, 0-2 in the Horizon League. A scheduled game at 7 p.m. Thursday at Oakland remains on as scheduled. RMU is scheduled to return home to host Youngstown State on Jan. 5.
