Forward Drake Caggiula will get a chance to bounce back from injury with the Penguins next season.
Caggiula, 28, signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Penguins on Wednesday. It pays $750,000 at the NHL level.
Caggiula is recovering from February surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck. At the time, he was given a six- to eight-month timetable for recovery. Caggiula has also dealt with concussion issues in his six-year pro career.
Before the injury, Caggiula was known as a speedy, versatile forward who could play center or wing on a scoring or checking line.
His best season came in 2018-19 when he recorded 12 goals and 23 points in 55 games split between Edmonton and Chicago. He’s also played for Arizona and Buffalo, and his career stat line shows 46 goals and 91 points in 278 games.
Last year, he managed two goals and five points in 18 games with the Sabres before surgery.
