Kenny Robinson, who grew up in Wilkinsburg and played at Imani Christian Academy, knows a little bit about drafts.

He was picked in the fifth round Saturday by the Carolina Panthers (No. 152 overall) after going to the St. Louis Battlehawks last year in the XFL’s first draft.

Robinson, 6-foot-2, 198 pounds, was an all-state player at Imani before enrolling at West Virginia. He played the 2017 and ’18 seasons for the Mountaineers, where he played cornerback and safety.

He was named honorable mention All-Big 12 as a freshman, recording 46 tackles, two tackles for loss and three interceptions — two returned for touchdowns.

The following season, he led the Mountaineers with four interceptions while making 77 tackles, but that was his last collegiate season. He was dismissed from West Virginia prior to the 2019 season when he was charged with academic fraud.

He originally planned to transfer before entering the XFL Draft in October. In five games with the Battlehawks, he recorded 21 tackles, two interceptions and a sack.
