Now, Jason Li is a step closer to winning a prestigious golf award.
Li, a junior at Carnegie Mellon and a graduate of Sewickley Academy, is a finalist for the NCAA Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, presented by Golf.com.
The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the D-I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels. Selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America, Li recently repeated at the University Athletic Association Player of the Year and was named a PING First Team All-American.
His 70.9 scoring average led CMU. He finished at or below par in 10 of his 14 rounds this season. He matched a school-record 66 twice and tied for the 54-hole program record with a 204 at the Savannah Invitational. He finished tied for second in a field of 90.
CMU finished fourth in the final national rankings.
Other Nicklaus finalists in D-III are: Emmet Herb of St. Thomas, Drew Mathers of Huntingdon, Cade Osgood of Southwestern and Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan.
Winners will be announced during the Memorial Tournament on July 13-19 at Muirfield Village in Ohio.
