Thomas Laurent will be inducted into the Isshinryu Karate Hall of Fame in July at an event in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

The Baldwin resident has been practicing and teaching Isshinryu karate for more than 40 years. He and his colleagues have operated a non-profit dojo, Isshinryu Karate Academy, in Pittsburgh for the last 30 years.

Laurent has won 12 IWKA division championships, and as an instructor, his students won seven IWKA grand championships.

“Every day I approach life and conduct myself humbly, respectful of myself and others,” he said. “Isshinryu, one-heart way, reflects my deep commitment to everything I do. Karate training elevates all aspects of my life.”
