In what in many ways was the penultimate practice of training camp before a typical regular-season week begins Monday, a host of players who have been battling injuries participated for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith and defensive lineman Montravius Adams were among that group, and each confirmed so Tuesday, the day before the final practice of the week leading into a four-day holiday weekend break.
Highsmith has had a rib injury that prevented him from playing in any of the Steelers’ three preseason games. Adams has been out since suffering an ankle injury earlier this month.
Highsmith noted it was a noncontact practice.
“It will be good to get out there and test it out with some hitting next week,” the starting edge defender said. “Got a lot of good conditioning in, and it felt good. The body felt good.”
Adams said he was taking reps at nose tackle and at defensive end.
“Definitely great to be back out there running around,” he said.

Asked if he would be fine to play in the regular-season opener Sept. 11 at the Cincinnati Bengals, Adams smiled.
“Two weeks?” he said. “I’ll definitely be good by then.”
