Abington advances to championship game over 8-10 Little League state tournament

Abington punched its ticket to the championship game of the 8-10 Little League baseball state tournament with a victory Friday night at the West Point Little League Complex.

Jake Kwiatkowski had two singles, a double and an over-the-fence home run to lift Abington to a 6-3 win over Morrisville in the winner’s bracket semifinal.

Shane Goldberg hit a single and triple, and Brody Nalevanko had two singles for Abington, which belted out 10 hits. Jerry Jordan was the winning pitcher.

Morrisville suffered its first loss of the double-elimination tournament and dropped into the loser’s bracket.

Newtown 3, Blue Mountain 2 — Saverio Lonho singled home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Newtown a walk-off victory over Blue Mountain in the loser’s bracket game Friday evening. Lonho also was the winning pitcher, as Newtown remained alive in the tournament.

Newtown will play Morrisville in the loser’s bracket finals at 4 p.m. Saturday at West Point. The winner moves on to play Abington in the championship game at 4 p.m. Sunday, also at West Point.
