In my letter “Ukrainians political pawns” (April 24, 2024, TribLive) I stated that we should either save Ukraine or abandon them to their fate. We appear to finally be making that choice.

President Barack Obama watched as Russia seized Crimea in 2014, 11 years ago. His administration signed Ukraine’s execution warrant while Europe watched indifferently.

The Biden administration built the gallows; they strung Ukraine along for years during full-scale war with false promises and barely enough equipment in order to prolong the conflict. Ukraine has been throwing their next generation at the Russians to blunt their advance while standing on a platform made of smoke and mirrors.

President Donald Trump now has his hand on the platform lever, and is desperately trying to pull it.

We cannot let him.

The defeat of Ukraine will be the defeat of the United States. Mr. President, you don’t want to lose, do you?
