Blue Ridge Beef of North Carolina is recalling raw dog food that has tested positive for salmonella.
Breeders Choice dog food was distributed to retailers in five states including Pennsylvania, according to an announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The dog food was distributed in 2-pound logs between Aug. 9 and Aug. 25. The UPC number is 8 54298 00193 1.
Salmonella can make animals sick if they eat the contaminated food. Humans can get sick from handling the food and not washing their hands afterward.
Pets with a salmonella infection may be lethargic, have diarrhea, fever and vomiting.
Human symptoms are similar – nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
In addition to Pennsylvania, the dog food was sold in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia.
