So is this how the world ends?

Many gamers are asking themselves that question as Fortnite has gone dark.

Worse than dark: Black hole dark.

On Sunday, gamers joining in an event called “The End” (the end of the game’s 10th season), saw around 2 p.m. a rocket launch from the island, only to have it crash back down and destroy everything, creating a black hole. Everything was sucked into it.

Players — about 6 million of them, according to The Guardian — were left hanging. For hours. And hours.

Epic Games, the developer that produces the game, isn’t calling it quits. With more than 250 million players, it would be ridiculous to shut down shop. No, this is just a stunt. But of epic (uh, Epic) proportion.

Right now, logging into the game will get you a blank screen.

Although some fans have figured out a way to entertain themselves until things start back up again.

It’s not certain when the next chapter in the game will begin, but some fans believe they have a timeline.

Twitter user Lucas7yoshi is estimating the game — via code breaking — will be back around Thursday.

That certainly seems an extreme amount of time to keep these rabid gamers waiting.

As of mid-Monday morning, a countdown had appeared on Fortnite’s China site.

Oh, what did “The End” look like for gamers? Pretty intense.
