Pennsylvania health officials on Sunday reported 962 new cases of covid-19 and 26 more deaths, bringing the statewide death total to 2,444.
As of Sunday, 49,267 Pennsylvanians had tested positive for covid-19, and 191,374 residents had tested negative, state officials said. All 67 counties in the state have cases of the virus.
Most of the patients hospitalized are 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. No children have died from the virus.
“As we see the number of new covid-19 cases continuously change across the state that does not mean we can stop practicing social distancing,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a Sunday statement. “We must continue to stay home to protect ourselves, our families and our community. If you must go out, please make as few trips as possible and wear a mask to protect not only yourself, but others. We need all Pennsylvanians to continue to heed these efforts to protect our vulnerable Pennsylvanians, our health care workers and frontline responders.”
Roughly 67% of the total deaths — 1,635 — in the state have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities, according to the state health department,
There are 9,122 resident cases of covid-19 in nursing and personal care homes, and 1,194 cases among employees, state officials said. That means there are a total of 10,316 covid-19 cases connected to such facilities, or roughly 21% of the state’s total positive covid-19 cases. Those numbers are reflective of 492 distinct facilities in 44 counties. State officials are not providing the data breakdown for each facility.
Approximately 3,031 of the total cases are in health care workers.
Neither Allegheny or Westmoreland counties saw new deaths Sunday from covid-19. Allegheny County reported 12 additional cases of the virus while Westmoreland County reported five.
Elsewhere in Western Pennsylvania, Beaver County reported 435 cases and 68 deaths, and Butler County saw 180 cases and six deaths.
Fayette County had 83 cases and four deaths while Greene County reported 27 cases and one death.
Indiana County 69 saw cases and four deaths; Somerset County had 29 reported cases and one death, and Washington County had 119 cases and two deaths.

Pennsylvania remains under a stay-at-home order while Gov. Tom Wolf uses a metric-based system for a gradual reopening set to begin next week. Non-life-sustaining businesses in at least 24 counties are scheduled to reopen starting on Friday.
