Wine lovers unite.

If you needed an excuse to imbibe, now you have one.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is partnering with the state Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Winery Association to promote October as Pennsylvania Wine Month. And they are asking residents to help celebrate it.

Don’t know much at Pennsylvania wines? All of the state’s Premium Collection state stores will feature Pennsylvania wines at in-store wine tastings from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday.

State officials said Pennsylvania’s growing selection of wines now contribute more than $1.4 billion to the state’s economy.

At another event, the Pennsylvania Winery Association, the PLCB, PA Preferred and the Pennsylvania Cheese Guild will host a wine and cheese tasting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the new Taste & Learn Center at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits Premium Collection store at Cranberry Mall, 20111 Route 19, Cranberry.

Although the event is free, attendance is limited and advance registration is required.

Registrations can be made in person at the store or by phoning local wine specialist Jerry Metallo in Cranberry at 724-776-0300.
