The Westmoreland Food Bank will host an open house at its Salem warehouse on Thursday.

Attendees will be able to take a self-guided tour of the facility — located on Devonshire Drive — from 4 to 8 p.m. Food and music will be provided.

The food bank first hosted an open house last year after its 40th anniversary gala. The event drew about 200 people, said food bank CEO Jennifer Miller.

It is hosting the event in September in honor of Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign by Feeding America dedicated to addressing hunger.

“It’s a day to welcome our partners in from all over the county,” Miller said. “It’s a time for people to come in and ask questions, enjoy some entertainment and good food.”

Each visitor will receive a “passport” that will be stamped each time they visit a station. The stations, led by food bank employees, will teach attendees about various steps in the food bank’s process — from accepting donations, to storage to distribution.

Attendees can submit their stamped passport to receive tickets to be used in one of several raffles offered at the event.

Former Steelers linebacker Arthur Moats will attend the open house to take pictures and sign autographs with fans. He will speak sometime around 5 or 6 p.m., Miller said.
