Westmoreland County has put out the help wanted sign.

The county will conduct a job fair Wednesday, Aug. 16 at Twin Lakes Park designed to help fill as many as 250 vacant government jobs.

“We desperately want to fill these vacancies,” said Commissioner Sean Kertes. “When you don’t have proper staffing, you run into problems. We have to pay more to fill these voids, and that’s why we are working hard to fill these jobs.”

The county employees about 1,600 at the courthouse and various other locations including the jail, Westmoreland Manor and at the county parks.

Filling those vacant positions has been a challenge in recent years. The county conducted multiple job fairs last year and held a similar hiring event at Westmoreland Mall in February.

Commissioners announced the Aug. 16 job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Twin Lakes Park Pavilion 7 and Activity Center.

Officials said the county is seeking to hire correctional officers; dietary staff and cooks at Westmoreland Manor; aging care managers; auditors; children’s bureau caseworkers; legal secretaries; maintenance workers; and park police officers.

A full listing of available jobs can be found on the human resources page of Westmoreland County’s website.
