Westmoreland County added 15 new coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported, tying a previous record from last week for most reported deaths on a single day.

The additional deaths now bring the county’s death toll to 265. There have been 61 deaths attributed to the disease this month in the county.

The state also added 197 new coronavirus cases in the county.

The total number of cases in the county now stands at 11,864, with 9,435 confirmed and 2,429 probable since the first cases were reported in March.

The state Department of Health defines a probable case as one in which a patient has “a positive serology (antibody) test and either covid-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.

The county’s seven-day average is 317 cases and the county’s seven-day total of cases is 2,221, both continue a week of record highs.

According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, 134 Westmoreland County residents are hospitalized for covid-19, with 12 patients on a ventilator.
