A state police fire marshal will attempt to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a two-story wood frame home in South Huntingdon Thursday, according to fire officials.

A dozen fire departments from southwestern Westmoreland County and northern Fayette County responded to the blaze on the 100 block of Strikertown Road, near the village of Wyano, at 10:47 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours.

Turkeytown Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dan Pergola Jr. said the homeowner was able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived. He did not identify the homeowner.

Pergola said there were no injuries.

Pergola said he was not certain whether the home was insured.

Firemen at the scene said the fire was already showing from the exterior when they arrived. At one point, firefighters attempting to battle the blaze from the interior were told to evacuate the burning structure.
