Westmoreland’s board of commissioners will hold their June voting meeting at the site of the county’s first courthouse.

The county’s road show will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday at Historic Hanna’s Town in Hempfield to commemorate Westmoreland’s 250th birthday.

Hanna’s Town was the site of the first seat of government for the county when it was established in 1773 and served as the first location where English-styled courts were convened west of the Allegheny Mountains.

“We’re taking it back to our roots and taking it back to our founding,” said county Chief Clerk Vera Spina.

The meeting will take place under a pavilion on the Hanna’s Town grounds. The commissioners are expected to consider a full 16-page agenda of business items — not unlike what typically occurs during monthly voting sessions at the courthouse in Greensburg.

As a nod to the county’s birthday celebration, the commissioners are expected to approve proclamations related to Westmoreland’s founding. A town crier in period dress will be on hand to make public announcements, Spina said.

Meanwhile, Hanna’s Town exhibits will be open following the meeting, including a display of 25 objects selected by county officials to commemorate the 250 years of Westmoreland County.
