A man accused of kidnapping his wife to Kentucky fled from police Tuesday night as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant in a new case filed by Rostraver police.
Latrobe police Lt. Michael Wigand said officers were helping their counterparts from Rostraver serve an arrest warrant on Shawn Michael Prince, 29, around 6 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Spring Street. A man matching his description was seen running away from the area and Latrobe and Rostraver police summoned the help of state troopers and officers from Derry Borough and Westmoreland County Park Police.
Multiple sightings of Prince were investigated throughout the evening.
“Despite extensive search efforts, including the use of a drone with thermal imaging, Prince was not located,” Wigand said. “No injuries were reported. It is unknown if Prince is still in the Latrobe area.”
Rostraver police on Tuesday filed charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment against Prince in connection with a Sunday incident, according to court records. He’s accused of punching his estranged wife in the chest and ribs after they got into an argument around 1:20 p.m. in a parking lot while waiting for someone to deliver him crack cocaine, police said.
Medical records from Independence Health Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant showed that she had a chest wall contusion and lip abrasion, according to court papers.
Anyone with information on Prince’s whereabouts is asked to call local police. Prince is about 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds, police said. He has brown hair, a beard and was wearing a blue-and-black flannel shirt.
He is free on $25,000 bond in an October kidnapping case filed by Scottdale police. He returned to Pennsylvania Dec. 11 after being found in Kentucky in early October with his then-wife, who had been reported missing after a domestic incident in Scottdale.
Court records indicate he spent three days in the Westmoreland County Prison before posting $25,000 through a bondsman and was released Dec. 14.
A Jan. 28 preliminary hearing is scheduled in that case.
