A 39-year-old man was killed Saturday night after a crash on Route 819 in Mt. Pleasant Township, according to state police.

Timothy A. Strobel of Hempfield was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

According to police, Strobel was riding a Yamaha Terrapro all-terrain vehicle at about 8:45 p.m. between Brinker and Steeles roads along Route 819, which is north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike before Armbrust, when he crossed the road and flipped the vehicle after hitting an embankment, according to the Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha.

As Strobel was attempting to return the ATV to its upright position in the roadway he was struck by a 2014 Kia Soul that was traveling in the southbound lane, according to the coroner.

Strobel was then hit by 2009 Ford Escape traveling northbound, said Bacha, who pronounced him dead at the scene.

Dr. Cyril H. Wecht is scheduled to perform an autopsy today to determine the cause and manner of death.

The drivers of the two vehicles that struck Strobel were not injured. Police noted that a passenger in the Kia Soul suffered a minor injuries.

State police in Greensburg are handling the investigation.
